The Chairman of Businessmen Panel at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mian Anjum Nisar, has urged the government to make the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) autonomous on the pattern of State Bank of Pakistan.

He made this proposal while speaking to a delegation of industrialists here on Friday. He said the government should constitute a tax policy board under the ministry of finance with a task to evolve national tax policy in consultation with the necessary stakeholders. The proposed board must hold at least four meetings to evolve appropriate strategy and its implementation during the year, he added.

The FBR should be directed to take steps for raising revenue, broadening of tax-net, easing the tax payment and registration system. The FBR chairman should hold the office of the proposed board so that being well informed of the ongoing affairs he could implement the policies.

Mian Anjum Nisar further said there should be audit of the FBR by an international audit firm and its report should be submitted to the tax policy board. He also stressed the need for making harmony in the provincial and federal capital tax system.
